Respectful island citizens.
If you have spent your entire life in a beautiful environment, you might take natural
beauty for granted, unlike people who just recently fell in love with their newly adopted homeland. Maren and Hans-Peter
Oehm have been living and working in Mallorca for the past fifteen years. They build spectacular country homes out of
the typical regional sandstone, and they are also deeply committed to the preservation of the old town of Santanyi. From
the very beginning, the couple interacted with the people on the island, and bit by bit, they learned to speak Spanish. It
had always been clear to both of them: “If we choose to live in another country, we will have to adapt.” In the meantime,
they have forged friendships with many fascinating people from Mallorca: artists, craftsmen, stone carvers … even the
mayor of Santanyi. Their philosophy is rooted in the materials and the customs that are typical for this island and this
is why their projects have so much more substance than many holiday homes built to make a quick profit. The houses
and apartments they design have that particular charm that people look for in a foreign country. It is the attention to
detail and the quality of the workmanship for which their buildings are known. In their own “finca”, beautifully situated
on the magnificent coastline, the Oehms go even a step further. They turned the entrance to their own inlets, which are
sometimes used for film shootings, into a biospheric experience. All profits from filming are invested in plants and guide
systems through this magical world. And the best part is that it is open to anybody. This is what we call respectful citizens.
